One of the largest problems in trying to create an index for finding information easily and how to break down large
collections that are located in libraries, archives, and historical societies. I have tried to tackle this problem so
that items can be found by several ways. I know that I have probably not thought of everything but I have used the
method that I use when I am doing research in Native American Records. I have broken this down into the the following:
Tribe;
People;
Places;
Battles;
Expeditions;
Military;
Books, Essays, and Articles;
Miscellaneous Records;
Maps; and finally at the end I have listed
libraries,
archives, and
historical
societies so you can if you wish look at all of their holdings as a group.
If you find a record that you see under one of the listings you will need to follow the link to the page that record
is located on and then go to the top of the page to determine where that record can be found. I have tried to keep all
records that are in one place on the same page with details of how to acquire information for that record from the
location where it is housed.
This listing is in no particular order. The subject, content and authors are so various it was hard to determine what order they should have been in.
I have tried to keep like subjects together as much as possible to make it easier to find stuff. The link will take you to the collection that item can be found in.
